🇨🇳🚛🔋 China is accelerating the transition of freight transport to new energy sources

China has presented a plan for a large-scale transition to a new stage in the development of the commercial vehicle market: by 2030, 40% of new heavy trucks (weighing over 12 tons) in the country should be vehicles powered by new energy sources (NEV). At the same time, their share in the total fleet of heavy-duty vehicles is planned to increase to 20%, which corresponds to approximately 1.6 million units.

🚚 Separate goals have been identified for short regional freight routes with high transport intensity (for example, within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei agglomeration), which are planned to be transferred to new types of fuel even more actively - the number of NEV freight models on them is expected to increase to 80%.

🔋 The new plan provides not only for updating the vehicle fleet, but also for developing infrastructure. By 2030, it is planned to build about 3,000 charging and battery stations as part of the concept of creating the so-called. “low-carbon highways” - transport corridors with a reduced level of harmful emissions with a length of 30 thousand km. 📊 According to industry sources, already in 2025 in China, electric models accounted for almost a third of sales of new heavy trucks. The growth of the segment is facilitated by government subsidies, programs for replacing old equipment with new ones, the dynamic expansion of charging infrastructure and serious successes of Chinese battery manufacturers.

The mentioned processes are an important factor in the transformation of the fuel market. Analysts say the rapid spread of electric vehicles and alternative-energy trucks in China is already putting pressure on demand for gasoline and diesel.

🌐 Against this background, new export opportunities are opening up for Chinese car manufacturers. A number of companies are already promoting electric trucks in foreign markets, including the countries of Southeast Asia, where such equipment may be in demand in a wide range of areas, including the mining industry.

🎯 Thus, China is actually forming a new industrial circuit in the field of heavy transport, within which the production of trucks using new energy sources, batteries, charging infrastructure and service solutions is developing as a single ecosystem.

🔸 For the international market, this means increased competition from Chinese manufacturers of commercial vehicles and a further reduction in the dependence of freight transport on traditional fuels. In China, the NEV category includes electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
