🇨🇳 China commissioned the world's first coal-fired power unit with supercritical steam parameters and record efficiency
In Shandong province, power unit No. 1 of the Datang Yuncheng 630°C project was put into commercial operation - the world's first coal-fired power unit with a capacity of 1 GW with double reheating of steam, the temperature of which reaches 630°C.
According to Xinhua news agency, on June 8, the unit successfully completed 168-hour tests under full load, after which it was officially transferred to commercial operation.
🗂 Key parameters of the project: 🔸 installed capacity - 1 GW; 🔸 estimated generation efficiency - 50.05%; 🔸 fresh steam pressure - 35.5 MPa; 🔸 reheat temperature - 631°C; 🔸 specific coal consumption - 256.28 g/kWh.
For comparison, traditional 1 GW coal-fired power units operating in China typically have an efficiency of about 49%. The new project is the first in global coal generation to surpass the 50% thermal efficiency mark. It is especially important that the increase in project efficiency is ensured not only due to supercritical steam parameters, but also due to the updating of key materials and equipment. The design of the power unit, in particular, uses unique heat-resistant types of steel, new generation turbine rotors, water-cooled walls and elongated titanium blades of the last stage of the turbine.
🟠 Why is this important? Against the backdrop of the rapid growth of renewable energy sources, China is not abandoning coal generation, but is transferring it to a more efficient and technological level. From the point of view of the industrial policy of the PRC, such areas as energy security, modernization of heavy engineering, improvement of new materials and reduction of specific fuel consumption are receiving new development.
In fact, we are talking about the fact that China continues to improve the technological status of traditional energy, while simultaneously developing renewable energy sources, energy storage and modern network infrastructure.
